The River at Easton

This painting is of the Itchen at Easton, an idyllic village just outside Winchester city. The river here is slow and mature, the countryside rich and lush, especially in early summer. I was pleased to find a small canvas in my bag that was primed with red oxide, and it was very satisfying to mix rich greens that would gently pulse away on their complimentary- an old trick but one that allowed some of the really bright colours to sing.
