Winter Walk 1

I painted this in my studio having just returned from a bitterly cold walk with our two lurchers in the water meadows at Itchenstoke . The thin snow blanketing a once familiar landscape had rendered everything stark and bare, cool colours over earthy ones, stark verticals of leafless trees, a heavy purple sky seemingly tangled in their branches – and the warm curves of the dogs, almost in silhouette, exploring this alien world.

This painting was hung in the Mall Galleries who chose to make it into one of two cards to celebrate the Royal institute of Oil Painters exhibition there in 2019.
