Winter Watermeadows in Flood

This painting of the Itchen watermeadows was painted a year after the two Winter Walks and sadly we had lost our beloved older lurcher, Maisie. I had taken to walking very early in the morning with Tink, and we were both surprised to discover a complete change in the landscape, with huge “lakes” of floodwater where none had been before. The water was shallow but so clear, reflecting a bright sky. The landscape was golden in the sun, but cold – the frost still lay frozen on the blue green grass.
