Boys with Red Buckets

There is another version of this painting which is more a portrait of my small grandsons – but I enjoyed the timeless universality of the image of two small boys playing earnestly with the sand on the beach so much, that I decided to celebrate it in a more general way. What was special to me here was the way the sun seemed to pour the red of the plastic buckets into the sand and reflect its glow in their small bodies. I loved the sense of the wind, making the clouds skitter, the waves choppy and transparent under the foam, kicking up the boys wonderful Celtic hair making it almost orange in the sun.
