Girls playing at W. Wittering

I took a small group of plein air painters to West Wittering on a breezy day in May. We studied cloud forms and receeding skies and horizons, focusing in the near ground on the skeletal remains of the old groin structures rising out of the water. Two young girls appeared in bright dresses, the wind whipping up their shiny hair and a little yapping dog in tow…what a gift for a painter! I can hear their excited squeals of delight as rogue waves caught them unexpectedly when I look at this painting…
