Old Boat leaving the Harbour, Falmouth

Another painting of the old training boat, this time leaving Falmouth Harbour. She didn’t have her topsail up so I used the triangular space made by its absence to cut into the sky, the mast making almost a right angle against the dark silhouette of the trees behind. The tan colour of the sale flirts with the yellow cloud, the apricot of the sunlit meadow behind and the sappy green of the field below it. This is the landscape it leaves every day -the boat is doing its job, skimming through the water with its trainee crew, out into the open sea.
