Old wooden Boat

This is the old training ship at Falmouth at her mooring. It is morning and the crew are preparing her for another excursion. It was as if she was waking from sleep – the mainsail is barely up. She seemed a timeless piece of her landscape, the ropes and mast almost organic forms barely distinguishable against the woods in the land mass that was her backdrop. The colours fascinated me, a natural palette, nothing jarred. Instinctively I used an old piece of timber to lay the paint on, the colour and texture of the wood are part of it.
