I had been painting something else in my studio, it had been raining and it was going badly. I returned with a cup of coffee to a sunlit room – the light streamed through the chair and over the cat, filled the cineraria like a lit up cushion, dripped from the tropical leaves of the orchid creating toffee coloured pools on the wooden floor. Purple shadows played havoc in the space and mirages on the window panes took the images into the garden. I abandoned my original subject and painted the corner of my studio over the next two or three weeks, trying too retain the initial impact of my response . The light was fickle and transient. I had to concentrate on exactly what I saw, not what I imagined I saw.

This painting was selected by No Barking Art for their Covid-19 Virtual Exhibition – giclee prints are still available.

This painting was featured at the Grange Festival Exhibition
