Still Life with Roman Cauliflower

I set up this still life with a friend – we had an abundance of choice but ended up placing one item then the next in a very deliberate way. I was intrigued by the green of the Roman Cauliflower and perched it on the very edge of the plate where it sat quite happily, although it looked as though it might fall off at any time. . The economy and deliberateness of the set up seemed to affect the way I painted it, keeping it spare but as accurate as I could. The subject had a sort of luminosity which I tried to convey.
