Study of Daffodils

Daffodils are tricky to paint, they have a very definite and distinctive form, so it is hard not to let ones brain intervene and influence what one sees. I try to be ruthless in my observation, and really accurate in mixing the colours I am seeing. This vase was a helpful choice though, because the bottom half is glass tinted violet which complements the daffodils, but the upper half is overglazed with a beautiful rosy gold – which offers a little warmth.
