Trug of Autumn Vegetables

I was really happy with this painting. I had gathered in a harvest of fruit and vegetables and put them in my wooden trug. The trug is hard to incorporate into a balanced composition, but it offers the opportunity both to contain and display what it contains. I placed my beautiful pottery jug behind it, brimming with rampant garden chrysanthemums which filled the top third of the painting with movement and added their purples and oranges to the jewel like colours unexpectedly offered by the vegetables.
