Yellow Tulips in an Art Deco Jug

These tulips were a present, instead of a chocolate egg, on Easter morning! I was actually thrilled with them – and also keen to meet the challenge of painting so much yellow. The flowers are all a similar shape and colour so there is no escape from the issues of mixing dark and light tones to describe their form and the light which falls on them…I put them in my Art Nouveau vase, furthering the challenge as it was also yellow, albeit pale, but ceramic, not translucent petal…it did contain a witty nod to the other primaries though, with its swooping blue kingfisher and red dashes on the handle.

This painting is currently being shown at the SWAC Exhibition with the Sou-Sou-West Gallery, Bridport.
